September Book Club Pick

After a month taking time out with my family and friends, I’m excited to be back with a new book club pick. One of the pillars of lifestyle medicine is maintaining healthy relationships. Notice that the pillar is not simply about having relationships with others but that’s they are healthy relationships. Too often I see patients in practice who are struggling with unhealthy relationships whether that is marital, family or workplace relationships and it’s causing them an unending amount of pain. So what is within our gift to seek out and maintain healthy relationships?

Boundaries!

With the right support and knowledge we can set healthy boundaries and start to live more contented lives.

Our September book club pick looks at just this. Titled “Boundaries: When to Say Yes, When to Say No, To Take Control of your Life”, Dr Henry Cloud and John Townsend explore the common pitfalls we can fall into when we have inappropriate boundaries. This book is written from a Christian ethos but the principles can be applied to any reader.

As someone who struggles to say no when I should or tends to take on others problems as my own, I found it a highly relatable and practical read. I hope you find it as informative and applicable in your own life as you follow along this month.
